The Council of Ministers of BiH defined the Protocol for signing the SAA

council-of-ministersAt the special session, the Council of Ministers of BiH defined the Proposal of the Protocol for the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between the European Communities and their Member States, on the one side, and BiH, on the other side, considering accession of Croatia to the European Union (EU).

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH will submit the Proposal of the Protocol to the Presidency of BiH for further procedure, and the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Denis Zvizdic, was suggested for BH signatory.

By signing the protocol, which was initialed on the 18th of July this year, the Council of Ministers of BiH is implementing residual activities in the process of reviewing the requirements for membership in the EU and receiving candidate status after the agreement was reached and mutually acceptable solution was found in regard the adaptation of the SAA.

This protocol provides the technical adaptation of the trade part of the SAA provisions in related to the export from BiH to the EU market and export from the European Union to BiH, while taking into account the accession of Croatia to the EU, and in order to avoid disruption of bilateral trade. The protocol is based on the mutual interests of both parties and it takes into consideration sensitive categories of products in BiH.

On the date of its provisional application, the European Union will automatically introduce trade benefits for exports from BiH to the EU market for certain agricultural products, such as fruits and vegetables.

On the session was also adopted the Report on the negotiations for conclusion of the Proposal of the protocol for the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between the European Communities and their Member States, on the one side, and BiH, on the other side, considering accession of Croatia to the European Union (EU).
