The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a first-instance verdict acquitting Rade Macura of war crimes against the civilian population in the area of Gradiška in June 1992.

The indictment accuses Macura that, as the commander of the First Company of the Second Battalion of the First Gradiška Brigade, in June 1992, during a search of the terrain in the town of Turjak – where a group of Bosniak civilians from Kozarac was located, who, fleeing from the war conflicts, tried to transfer to the border with Croatia – was present during the murders of ten civilians, including three women.

The indictment states that, after calling the civilians to surrender, the soldiers forced them to lie down on the road and eat bullets, some of which caused them to vomit, and after that they ordered them to get up and killed them.

According to the Court’s decision, the banning measures imposed on Macura were revoked.

Macura’s trial began two years ago.

There is a possibility of appeal against this verdict, Detektor reports.
