Just a few days before the New Year, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina received an unusually large number of indictments from the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, which raised questions about the reasons for such a temporal concentration of cases and why the indictments were submitted precisely in the last days of the year.
As announced by the Court of BiH, in the period from December 29, 2025 to today, December 31, 2025, to be precise, until 12:00, a total of 19 indictments were received. These are indictments that relate to various forms of the most serious criminal offenses, and which are distributed across all three departments of this court.
Department I for War Crimes received seven indictments, while Department II for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption received a total of nine indictments. The remaining three indictments were received by Department III for General Crime.
This number of indictments in such a short period of time, right before the end of the calendar year, has attracted public attention, especially in the context of long-term investigations that, by all accounts, were only completed at the end of 2025. The question arises whether some of the cases were ready earlier, but their submission was postponed, or whether this is an attempt to formally round off the results of the work of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH before the end of the year.
The Court of BiH states that, in accordance with the deadlines prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Code of BiH, it will analyze the submitted evidence and make a decision on the possible confirmation or rejection of all or individual counts of the received indictments. As emphasized, the public will be informed of all decisions in a timely manner.
For now, the question remains open as to why so many indictments were received almost simultaneously, and whether this practice will be repeated next year.
