Covic and Plenkovic: A final Agreement on electoral Reform must be reached

The final solution must result in a concrete political agreement, it was said after a meeting between the Speaker of the House of Peoples of the PA of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Covic and the Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković.

The harmonization of relations between the Bosniak and Croat people in the Federation should be resolved through a fair and rational solution of the Election Law, devoid of all unconstitutional anomalies that enable discrimination and imposition of political representatives, the interlocutors said.

Covic told Plenković what happened during the talks on electoral reform in Sarajevo.

“The four-day talks brought the positions of the actors of the negotiation process closer. The final part of the negotiations, unfortunately, was obstructed by the SDA, which wants to completely change the constitutional architecture and powers of the House of Peoples,” Covic said.

The strong attachment to the EU shaped by the Strategic Compass is a guarantee of support from EU institutions, it was concluded at a meeting of two senior political officials.

The meeting between the two officials followed the adoption of the Strategic Compass at the level of EU foreign and defense ministers. It is a strategic document of security and defense for member states.

In the context of BiH, this document clearly specifies the constituent peoples as the bearers of the constitutional sovereignty of BiH and the basic starting point when it comes to further activities towards BiH. This document, which guides European foreign policy, clearly recognizes the overriding constitutional principle of the constituent peoples.

This document will be confirmed by the European Council during the session of the Prime Ministers of the member states.
