The President of the Croatian National Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Čović, participated today in the solemn marking of the Day of Victory and Homeland Gratitude, the Day of Croatian Veterans and the 29th anniversary of the military-police operation “Storm” in Knin.
The program began with the laying of wreaths and the lighting of candles in front of the “Storm of 95” Croatian Victory Monument, where Čović, together with the Croatian head of state, laid a wreath on behalf of the HNS, paying tribute to the deceased and fallen Croatian defenders.
On today’s occasion, he sent congratulations to all Croatian men and women throughout the Republic of Croatia and the world, and in a special way to all Croatian veterans.
“It is our eternal duty to preserve historical facts and the dignity of all Croatian veterans,” Čović wrote on his X profile.
The families of the dead, deceased and missing veterans in VRO “Oluja”, Croatian war veterans, war commanders and representatives of associations arising from the Homeland War paid their respects, as well as the President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenković, the President of the Croatian Parliament Gordan Jandroković and representatives of counties, cities and municipalities.
The central ceremony on the occasion of the Day of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving was held at the NK “Dinar” stadium, where the flag-raising ceremony of the Republic of Croatia followed, accompanied by the ringing of the Knin church bells and the performance of the national anthem.
On that occasion, the names of the people who raised the Croatian flag were read and the history of the military operation was read.
Croatian veteran general Slavko Barić and the Croatian state leadership addressed those present.
After the central ceremony, a Holy Mass was held for the dead, deceased and missing Croatian veterans, led by Msgr. Jure Bogdan in the Church of Our Lady of the Great Croatian Christian Covenant.
