Analysis: Croatian Decision to dispose Radioactive Waste near BiH Border

The Mayor of Novi Grad, Miroslav Drljaca, stated that the strategy of the legal protection of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) interests regarding the disposal of radioactive waste on Trgovska Gora is still pending, while Croatia is implementing activities to provide documents for the construction of a Radioactive Waste Disposal Center.

Drljaca said that he has contacts with the members of the Legal Team and that most of the work has been done regarding the legal protection strategy.

”There is no fourth part where it should be defined which are the moves that BiH should make as soon as possible. We insist that we finally get that document,” Drljaca pointed out.

The expert team, Drljaca emphasized, has been lately slowing down everything that was well done in the beginning.

”We know that the funds have been approved, three million BAM, but there is no progress. Why aren’t public calls for research announced so that we too can have relevant data regarding the safety of the construction of such a facility?”Drljaca asked.

To recall, Croatia intends to store radioactive waste from the Krsko Nuclear Power Plant at the Trgovska Gora location, on the border with BiH, where the construction of a Radioactive Waste Disposal Centre is also planned.
