Cucumber cultivaionDzemal Hodzic ia a returnee from the village Oplicici near Mostar. Agriculture is his only source of income that ensures him secure existence.

“After returning to our place, we made greenhouses and focused on them the most. We are producing all sorts of agriculture, starting with the spinach salad, pepper, tomato, cucumber, al that can be produced in this region“, emphasized Hodzic.

Due to the catastrophic data on the employment of returnees, refugees and displaced persons from only 1%, the Union for Sustainable Return started a campaign of connecting returnees in cooperating chains, in order to ensure the export to the foreign market.

“Project should help, at least we hope that it will. That project is promises and serious persons are included and we hope that it will help both them and us“, hopes Hodzic.

As a part of the project, Adriatic Group put the emphasis on the cultivation on gherkins in BiH, and it is about the first class cucumber. What is needed is that the farmer has one hectare of land and irrigation system.

This project is worth 4 million BAM, it will last next five years and in that period, the secure income for more than 1.700 households is planned.

“Of cource it is a benefit for farmers because they have no financial investments because we are providing them absolutely everything, so they return it at the end of season through the purchase of the quantity of produced gherkin“, states Arijana Katana, the spokeswoman of the Adriatic Group.
