The History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina will open its doors on Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. until midnight and take visitors on a journey through space and time with exhibitions, talks and socializing. This year, International Museum Day will also mark the 80th anniversary of the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Throughout the day, the public will be able to leave their personal mark in a special museum scrapbook – a unique book of memories that will become part of the museum’s collection.
In addition, the redesigned souvenir shop offers limited edition souvenirs inspired by the museum and the anniversary, and symbolic gifts await the happiest, the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.
In addition to permanent exhibitions – such as the exhibitions Besieged Sarajevo, Open Depot, We, Refugees and The Spirit of Women, the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina also recommends that visitors visit “Wer ist Walter?” – an exhibition that thematizes the topography of anti-fascist resistance in Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the occasion of the anniversary of the end of World War II, and the first 10 visitors will receive a copy of the international publication on European resistance to fascism, Who is Walter? International Perspectives on Resistance in Europe during World War II.
The Museum suggests that visitors also visit “The Morning Will Change Everything”, an exhibition by the young Spanish artist Sebas Velasco, which brings realistic urban landscapes.
For those who want a deeper understanding of the museum’s content, two expert tours with curators have been organized, at 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
The educational part of the program also brings two already reserved workshops for children and youth: “Archipelago” – about the siege of Sarajevo through AR technology, “Wer ist Walter?” – about World War II and the role of resistance in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the help of a digital platform.
One of the most exciting parts of the day is the live restoration of the painting “Juriš” by the great Ismet Mujezinović, which will take place from 12:00 to 14:00. Visitors will be able to talk to the restoration team: Ajla Alijagić, Belma Mašić, Amina Subašić, Faris Prljača and Mirko Vlaški, led by Prof. Dr. Ćazim Hadžimejlić, as well as watch the film “Ismet Mujezinović – Atelier” by Ismar Mujezinović.BHRT subscription
At 20:00, the ReACT drama studio for youth will take the stage with the play “Naked in the Rain”, which brings a story about youth, war, trauma, hope and the culture of memory – through the form of applied theater within the museum space.
To end the evening – there will be a birthday party in the atrium.
“Our museum is a place where the past and the future, memories and hope meet. Museum Day is a day when people come not only to look, but also to leave a mark. Welcome!,” the Museum announced.
