Death Toll hits 218 after Nightclub Roof Collapse in Dominican Republic

The number of people killed from the roof collapse of the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo on the night from Monday to Tuesday has risen to 218, rescue services announced.

The director of the Center for Emergency Operations Juan Manuel Mendez said that 189 people were rescued.

Among the dead are the governor of Montecristi province Nelsy Cruz, as well as the popular singer Rubby Perez, who was performing when the roof collapsed.

The cause of the roof collapse has not yet been announced.
