Bosnia and Herzegovina has officially completed the television signal digitalization project, marking an important step forward in modernizing the communication infrastructure and public broadcasting. The launch of the digital signal from the BHRT building concludes a years-long digitalization process, and Bosnia and Herzegovina is no longer the only European country without a digital TV signal.
Edin Forto, Minister of Communications and Transport, stated that this is one of the most significant infrastructural advancements in communications in recent years.
“We have just launched the digital signal from the BHRT building, and with this launch, we have finalized the implementation of the TV signal digitalization project in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are finally a country that, along with all other countries in Europe, has a digital TV signal. When I was appointed minister three years ago, I found funds in the account and a ready project that, for some reason, had not started. We unblocked the project despite resistance, implemented it, and Bosnia and Herzegovina now has a digital TV signal,” Forto said.
He added that digitalization represents an important step forward for the future of public broadcasters in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Turning on a digital signal represents a symbolic step forward for our public broadcasters. They will all have this equipment at their disposal,” Forto said.
The minister also announced new measures aimed at stabilizing the public RTV system, including legislative amendments that will soon be introduced.
“What lies ahead is the stabilization of the public broadcaster’s operations. In just a few days, I will submit legislative amendments that would enable BHRT to avoid deficits at the end of the year that they did not cause themselves, and to cover that difference. Furthermore, I will request financial assistance for BHRT and hope to receive support. The fight for the public broadcasting service continues,” Forto concluded.
