Dina Manganaris from BiH preparing traditional Bosnian Cuisine in Harlem

Dina Manganaris left Bosnia and Herzegovina more than 10 years ago, but she never forgot the food and culture of her childhood.

Two years ago, after several years of adjustment to life in New York, Manganaris applied to EatWith. EatWith is an online platform that connects ordinary cooks and housewives with guests, with the aim to organize parties or cooking courses in the home atmosphere. Dina is now organizing dinner once every two months in her apartment for only 66 USD.

“I wanted to reconnect with my inheritance and this platform helped me in a great way,” said Manganaris.

“I use the recipes of my relatives, especially my grandma,” said Dina.

This type of concept was already established in Europe and it just started developing in New York, since local people can now taste traditional dishes from all over the world without leaving New York.

Manganaris is one of 70 EatWith hosts in New York, and she receives only between 4 and 8 % of guests who apply for participation.

Ben Gillman (25) is one of the guests who came to try Bosnian cuisine at Dina’s.

“People who live in New York always want to try something new, something that never existed before. I came here for the first time because my friend recommended it after he went to a similar dinner,” stated Gillman.
