Do You Know Who Badema Sokolović Is? Once Hailed as the Most Beautiful Woman in Sarajevo

Have you heard of the opera diva Badema Sokolovic? She was called the most beautiful woman in Sarajevo, and with her unrivaled talent, she left a mark on both the Zagreb and Sarajevo scenes.

She was born in 1929 in Sarajevo into a distinguished family that traces its origin to Mehmed-pasha Sokolovic. Her sister is the legendary actress Semka Sokolovic-Bertok.

They grew up without a father in difficult living conditions. Their mother Abida took up sewing after her husband’s death to provide for her children.

Badema graduated from the Music Academy in Zagreb in the class of Lav Vrbanic. Her first performance was at the Croatian National Theatre. After that, she performed at the National Theatre in Sarajevo.

Some of the operas she participated in are “Kostana”, “Prince Igor”, “Fra Diavolo”, etc. After being part of the Sarajevo National TheatreOpera from 1955 to 1957, she was employed at the Croatian National Theatre Opera, where she worked until her death.

On the Zagreb stage, she sang in the operas “The Witch from Labin”, “Falstaff”, “Il Trovatore”, “The Duenna”… She died in 1969 at the age of 41, Klix.ba writes.
