Republika Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik today reiterated claims that an assassination attempt was allegedly planned against him, which, as he stated, was backed by “certain businessmen” who secured a million euros for his murder.

“There is a man who gathered a certain number of people in Konjic and secured support worth a million euros and hired shooters from Novi Pazar and some from Bosnia and Herzegovina – Bosniak Muslims, interesting criminals, who had the obligation to carry out an assassination attempt on me at a specific time and place, in the territory of Serbia,” Dodik said at a press conference.

He stated that he knew the names of these “businessmen”, but that he could not talk about them.

“These businessmen, whose names I know, but I cannot say their names now, that is, the services, secured financial support,” Dodik said.

According to him, the assassination was supposed to take place on the territory of Serbia, but in the meantime circumstances changed.

He stated that, according to the information he has, one of the suspected assassins from Novi Pazar has already been detained in Serbia, while the other is in pre-trial detention in Rijeka, Croatia.

Dodik said that he wants to know the motives for the planned assassination attempt on him and that he is awaiting the results of the investigation.

He added that he “feels very safe when he is being guarded by the RS police and the Serbian police”.

So far, the competent institutions of Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have not commented on these allegations or officially confirmed them, Beta writes.
