Dodik: Membership in BRICS does not exclude Membership in the EU

The President of Republika Srpska entity Milorad Dodik said that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s membership in BRICS does not exclude membership in the European Union.

Dodik stated that countries that are members of the EU can also join BRICS, and that he believes that it is necessary to get to know the BRICS story in detail and initiate an initiative, Srna reports.

“I initiated it and said that as Republika Srpska, that is, our representatives, we will, in the prescribed procedure, raise the issue of making a decision for BiH to request membership in BRICS,” said Dodik in Banja Luka.

He stated that membership in BRICS would be the best confirmation of BiH’s sustainability because in that organization there are friends of almost all peoples living in BiH today.

Dodik emphasized that this could encourage the issue of additional stability, and that it does not exclude the issue of the EU.

“But, if we have a situation like we have with this decision of the European Court of Human Rights, I don’t see that the path to the EU is completely certain for us. I don’t even see that through the statements of the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, who says that it will only be in 2030 for some of the countries to be admitted to the EU, and yet it is Bosnia,” said Dodik.

He asked what this kind of talk about BiH’s membership in the EU in 2030 brings, when only new demands are being made for the collapse of the position of Republika Srpska. “We are completely dissatisfied with that,” said Dodik.

He stated that today he met with numerous businessmen from China, the Czech Republic and Germany who want to invest in Republika Srpska, pointing out that the story about how someone introduced sanctions is fabricated.

“The bank that is credit monitoring the manufacturer from Germany in connection with wind farm equipment, when we were asked to make a statement about that line of credit, they replied that they do not support the decision of the Federal Government and that they remain in credit. Here we had a general uproar that we were excluded” , said Dodik.

He says that Republika Srpska has found an alternative through support from Hungary for the Hrgud wind power plant, but that the German bank does not want to terminate the contract related to that project, adding that Republika Srpska will request that the bank withdraw that contract.

“We have an internal agreement, no German program will pass here anymore,” concluded Dodik.
