US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States will destroy Iranian power plants if Tehran does not fully open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.

Trump, who issued an ultimatum in a post on social media late last night, said he was giving Iran 48 hours to open the vital waterway.

Otherwise, he said, Iran would face a new round of attacks.

“The US will destroy various power plants, starting with the largest,” Trump wrote.

Iran warned early this morning that any attack on its energy facilities would trigger attacks on US and Israeli energy and infrastructure facilities.

Iran’s blockade of the strait and attacks on ships have also sent oil prices soaring in recent weeks.

More than 2,000 people have been killed in Iran since the US and Israel began their attacks. 15 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Iranian attacks since the war began on February 28.

Late Saturday, Iranian missiles hit the southern Israeli cities of Dimona and Arad, wounding dozens of people, including children, in separate attacks. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said Sunday morning that they targeted “military installations” and security centers in southern Israel.
