A fire has broken out at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, with visitors being evacuated. Emergency services are on the scene battling the blaze, while tourists have been evacuated from the iconic structure in the French capital.

Visitors said the Eiffel Tower is currently closed while the fire is extinguished, with firefighters reportedly initially struggling to reach the source of the fire.

The fire is understood to have started in an elevator shaft between the first and second floors of the tower. One person wrote on X:

“A fire is currently raging at the Eiffel Tower. The monument has just been evacuated. Emergency services have set up a perimeter but firefighters are unable to reach the flames.”

Another person also shared on social media: “A fire is ongoing at the Eiffel Tower. Flames have been seen in the elevator shaft between the first and second floors. Everyone in the vicinity has been evacuated. Firefighters are still working.”

Paris still haunts the memory of the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral, with thick clouds of smoke rising into the air in 2019. This month, the first mass was held after the church was rebuilt, becoming a powerful symbol of Paris’ resilience.
