In the Nevesinje area, more than 25 years after the end of the war, investigators are still searching for 20 children, including the youngest, who was only seven days old, according to the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

Sanja Mulac, an investigator with the BiH Missing Persons Institute (MPI), told BIRN that she was outraged by the fact that children had been killed in the war, and that their bodies had been searched in many mass graves for more than 25 years.

She added that the remains of Zulja residents were found in the Lipovaca pit and that a total of 19 bodies had been identified. These are bone fragments, and it is not yet known where the secondary grave is.

“Lipovaca has been relocated and we do not know where the secondary grave is. 100 to 150 missing people from the Nevesinje municipality were expected in Lipovaca. The fragments are currently in the morgue, hoping to join bones by finding the secondary grave,” Mulac noted as there are 72 unidentified remains in the memorial ossuary in Nevesinje.

It was mentioned by the MPI BiH that the coronavirus pandemic has significantly slowed down their work and that by the end of November 2021, they went out on the field 36 times (in the territory of Herzegovina). A total of eight exhumations were carried out, and the remains of three victims were exhumed. They added that they regularly receive information about gravesand locations, but that there are fewer and fewer of those that really prove to be accurate.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH previously announced that almost entire families Ploskic, Sipkovic, Alicic, Alibasic, Mahinic, Brajevic, Copelj were killed in the crime… More than 7.600 missing persons are currently being searched for throughout BiH.
