Enver Maric, the legend of FC Velez and one of the world’s best goalkeepers, was born 70 years ago in Mostar.

He made his very first football steps in FC Velez, a club where he started training when he was just 12 years old. He debuted for the first team in the season 1967-68: he was a goalkeeper on the match Velez – Partizan 1: 0 that took place on June 19, 1968.

He played as a goalkeeper for Velez until 1976, when he moved to Schalke 04. However, he could not live far from Neretva and Mostar, so he decided to return to Velez after only two seasons and played as a goalkeeper until 1985, when he finished his career.

He played more than 600 football matches for Velez, of which 441 were official matches in the First League of Yugoslavia. He led Velez as the team captain for 204 times.

Moreover, he played 32 matches for the National team of Yugoslavia, and he was a member of the National team of the World. He was declared as the best player of Yugoslavia back in 1973.
