brckoDuring visit to Brčko District BiH on Wednesday, 17 February 2016, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to BiH Melvin Asin, together with the Mayor Anto Domić, Chief of Police of Brčko District BiH Goran Pisić and UNDP Resident Representative Sezin Sinanoglu, officially opened the new headquarters of the Brčko District Police, whose completion was financed by the EU in the amount of 3.5 million EUR and the Brčko District BiH Government in the amount of 1.5 million EUR.

“The EU recognises that for police services to work effectively, functional and adequate infrastructure is needed. Therefore, we financed the completion of the police building in Brčko with 3.5 million EUR. This will positively impact on the Brčko District Police capacity to meet standards in the law enforcement sector, including its capacity to process evidence, support investigations and to provide support to victims and witnesses. It will also contribute to better cooperation between different law enforcement agencies, as the new building will also host the Border Police and the Service for Foreigners Affairs. Overall, this project contributes to higher standards in law enforcement and a stronger Rule of Law in Brčko District. Finally, the building will be environmentally friendly, which ensures lower energy costs on the long run,” Asin said.

Asin also met with the Mayor Domić, Deputy Mayor Esed Kadrić and Head of EU Integration Office, Ilija Stojanović, to discuss the important role that Brčko District has in the EU integration process as well as the number of the EU funded projects from which Brčko District benefits and is also a partner in their implementation.

Asin handed over to Brčko District Government the technical documentation and studies concerning improvement of energy efficiency on 5 public building on 4 locations. These studies were produced under the EU funded project to promote improved energy efficiency and increased use of renewable energy.

The aim of this assistance was to assess the options, recommend the most feasible ones and enable Brčko District to apply for loan funds of international financial institutions, or seek public private partnership arrangements, in order to realise these projects. Asin has encouraged Brčko District Government to make the best to implement what was granted to the benefit of all citizens of the District.
