EU in BiH commented on the Marking of Republika Srpska Entity Day

From Delegation of the European Union in Bosnia-Herzegovina, it was stated last year that the EU “took note” that the RS marks the Day of the RS although the Constitutional Court of BiH decided that the celebration of the Day of RS on the 9th of January is inconsistent with the Constitution of BiH.

They emphasized that the Council of the European Union in its conclusions from October 2016 expressed regret over the illegal referendum on the entity level on the day of the RS, contrary to the decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH on the 17th of September 2016, emphasizing that the referendum caused tensions and undermined the rule of law.

“The EU gives great importance to the proper functioning of democratic institutions, including the implementation of decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH, and calls on all political leaders in BiH to refrain from the rhetoric of division and focus on the important political and economic reforms,” as noted from the EU Delegation.
