A four-day training programme for trainers in media and digital literacy began yesterday in Mostar, bringing together 11 teachers, professors and educators from across Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The training is organised within the EU project “Raising awareness and knowledge of media literacy among youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina”. Its aim is to strengthen participants’ knowledge and skills in media and digital literacy, fact-checking, science literacy and artificial intelligence.
Participants were addressed by Ferdinand Koenig, Spokesperson and Head of Communications of the EU in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Emir Zulejhić from the Citizens’ Association “Zašto ne”. Both highlighted the importance of empowering educators to promote media and digital literacy among young people.
“In the current complex information environment, critical thinking skills are fundamental for building resilience in democratic societies. Democracies require trust and social cohesion to function. By empowering educators to foster media literacy and critical inquiry in the classroom, we are strengthening the foundations of an informed, resilient public,” said Ferdinand Koenig.
“At the Citizens’ Association ‘Zašto ne’, we place great importance on strengthening media and digital literacy, and we are particularly pleased to have the opportunity, for the second time, to share this knowledge with teachers and other educators. More than 150 applications and the excellent motivational letters we received show that they recognise the importance of this topic, especially given that media and digital literacy are still not sufficiently integrated into formal education,” stated Zulejhić.
Throughout the four-day programme, participants will explore how to identify disinformation, practical fact-checking methods, science literacy and the use of artificial intelligence. Working with experienced trainers, they will have the opportunity to learn practical approaches to teaching media and digital literacy that address contemporary challenges in information and education.
This is the second training organised by the Citizens’ Association “Zašto ne” as part of the EU project “Raising awareness and knowledge of media literacy among youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina”.
