30092014eu02Head of EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Peter Sorensen, and EU Heads of Missions accredited to BiH fully support the BiH Central Election Commission and its work in ensuring that all regulation are observed in the electoral process. This was underlined in a meeting today with President of the BiH Central Election Commission, Stjepan Mikic, who briefed the EU diplomats on preparations for general elections which will be held in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 12 October.

Ambassador Sorensen and EU Member States Ambassadors welcomed the deployment of the ODIHR/OSCE Observation Mission and also welcomed domestic observation and participation, emphasizing their importance for transparent election process. They also informed the BiH Central Election Commission that the EU in Bosnia and Herzegovina will deploy some 30 teams to observe elections on 12 October.

“We urge all political parties and candidates to respect the rules of political campaigning in a democratic environment; to refrain from divisive rhetoric and to focus on concrete issues that matter to citizens. We also call on citizens to cast their vote at general elections,” Ambassador Sorensen said.
