After Russia invaded Ukraine, military forces in Europe are being reorganized to maintain the security of all countries. Accordingly, EUFOR has sent additional troops to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) from Austria, Bulgaria, Romania, and Slovakia, with motorized platoons arriving.
In the previous days, videos of armored vehicles on the streets of BiH were published on social networks, and these were vehicles arriving as part of the Althea mission.
“Armored personnel carriers will join other, unarmored vehicles in conducting regular EUFOR operations, so BiH citizens should know that they will now be able to see these armored personnel carriers on the roads,” EUFOR said.
Three days ago, 500 troops arrived under that plan, United States (U.S.) Humvee vehicles were deployed earlier, and Romania recently sent a platoon consisting of armored personnel carriers, as well as logistics and support vehicles, which will also be deployed.
Part of the motorized platoon arrived in BiH yesterday, and it was filmed at the Bosanski Samac border crossing. These are Piranha and BRDM 2 armored vehicles that will be part of the military assistance to the BiH Armed Forces (AFBiH).
It is not known how and where these vehicles will be deployed, and after they entered BiH, the citizens filmed them in Maglaj and Zenica, and they were redirected to Sarajevo.
Additional troops and equipment will be in the service of conducting regular EUFOR operations such as patrols, combined training with the AFBiH, and the protection of EUFOR forces.
The security situation in Europe is considered disturbed, but it is stated that there are no open threats in BiH. EUFOR said that in addition to what has arrived in BiH so far, another 3.500 reserve troops are on alert and can be deployed at any time. Furthermore, as a precautionary measure, France will report several training flights of jet planes over BiH sky in the upcoming period.
