EUFOR “Quick Response” Exercise begins

EUFOR has informed the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina that on Saturday and Monday there will be noticeably more military vehicles on the roads than usual, considering that foreign soldiers are arriving for the “Rapid Response” exercise.

On August 24 and 26, 2024, citizens will be able to see increased movement of EUFOR vehicles on the roads from the Klobuk, Metaljka and Svilaj border crossings to Čapljina and the Butmir base in Sarajevo.

In these convoys there will be both light and heavy armored vehicles, and they will have the support of the local police and the escort of the international military police.

These activities are related to the arrival of EUFOR reserve forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina, since the EUFOR forces already present in the country will receive temporary reinforcements in the form of these reserve forces from Austria, Hungary and Romania and the peacekeeping forces deployed in Kosovo (KFOR – Kosovo Forces) for Exercise Quick Response, EUFOR’s major annual training event taking place from 24 August to 16 September 2024.

“EUFOR is a strong, capable and reliable partner and remains committed to providing support to the BiH authorities in maintaining a safe and stable environment,” EUFOR stated.

The purpose of this exercise is to demonstrate EUFOR’s readiness and confirm its continued support to its BiH partners in the maintenance of a safe and secure environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This large scale training event involves in-theatre troops from all 23 nations of EUFOR who are temporarily augmented by reserve forces from Austria, Hungary, Romania and the international peacekeeping forces from Kosovo (KFOR – Kosovo Forces).

This year EUFOR is supported by the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the conduct of this exercise by providing EUFOR with locations to carry out this training.

More information about the “Rapid Response” exercise is available on the EUFOR website.
