The Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Luigi Soreca, together with a number of EU Member States’ Ambassadors and diplomats continued the celebrations of Europe Day in Mostar on 10 May 2025. The visit focused on the European Union’s strong and lasting partnership with Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the results of the EU’s continued support to strengthening the economy, supporting local producers and creating opportunities for youth engagement.

Ambassador Soreca said, “I am happy to be celebrating Europe Day along with EU Ambassadors in a city that represents very well the spirit of what we want to achieve. The values of the European Union are to bring together different communities under the umbrella of peace, cooperation and respect. The wide majority of BiH citizens want the European Union and we are here to make sure this happens. The time is now to overcome differences and unite with EU accession as a centre of gravity for the benefit of the country”.

Following meetings between Ambassador Soreca and the Mayor of Mostar Mario Kordić, as well as with the Speaker of the Mostar City Assembly Đani Rahimić, the representatives of the EU and the City of Mostar met on Spanski Trg, for a presentation of local agricultural products, called the “Taste of Herzegovina”. Many of the local agricultural producers present had received support from EU funds to protect the region’s rich culinary and cultural heritage as well as promote local entrepreneurship and support rural development and small-scale producers.

At the United World College, the Ambassadors joined students for an interactive workshop on the past, present and future developments of the European Union. By exchanging views on European values, global citizenship and the future of BiH and the European Union, the open dialogue emphasised the important role young people have in shaping inclusive and democratic societies.

The Ambassadors continued their visit in INTERA Technology Park, engaging with innovators and startups that are transforming the local economy. The visit included a tour of the premises and development centres and a presentation of the ongoing tech projects as well as discussions on strengthening cooperation and inviting more funds for development of this crucial sector.

In the evening, at the historic Old Town, an open-air concert entitled Always in Heart of Europe brought together outstanding performers for a vibrant celebration of music, culture and shared European cultural space. Featuring the globally acclaimed DJ and producer Andrew Meller and local talents Andrej Jelić and Lubnya, the concert brought together citizens under the open sky.

Following the visit to Mostar, the Ambassadors and diplomatic representatives of the EU are visiting Sutjeska National Park participating in a guided tour of the Park’s scenic natural and cultural beauties joined by local biodiversity experts, activists and environmentalists. Sutjeska National Park, as part of several EU funded initiatives, is showcasing the potential for development of tourism and protecting the region’s natural beauty.
