European Commission HQ to host exhibition ‘Women of Srebrenica’

protesti_srebreničanke-620x330On 1 July 2015, Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, will inaugurate in Brussels the photo exhibition ‘Women of Srebrenica’, to mark the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica.

The exhibition, the work of photographer Sead Husic, portrays 40 women who lost their loved ones in the course of the tragic events of July 1995 in Srebrenica. The exhibition will remain in the main building of the European Commission (Berlaymont) from 1-24 July 2015.

On this occasion, Commissioner Hahn will also meet 20 representatives of Civil Society Organisations from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who have been invited through the ‘People-2-People’ programme of the European Commission to visit EU institutions in Brussels. Organisations participating include Youth Initiative for Human Rights in BiH, Students’ Association of Srebrenica, Citizens’ Association ‘Women of Srebrenica’ (Tuzla),  Citizens’ Association ‘Mothers of Srebrenica and Zepa Enclave’, Citizens’ Association ‘Srebrenica Mothers’ (Srebrenica), Ostra nula (Banja Luka), Nova generacija (Banja Luka), Youth Cultural Center ‘Abrasevic’ (Mostar), Association of Friends of Srebrenica, Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide, MEDICA (Zenica), Vive Žene, Balkan Investigative Reporting Network and Association ‘Transitional Justice, Accountability and Remembrance in BiH’.
