European Mobility Week in Bosnia and Herzegovina culminated in Car Free Day on September 22, where cities across the country temporarily closed main streets to car traffic and allowed cyclists to take part in traditional recreational activities aimed at promoting sustainable urban mobility.

With cyclists of all ages taking to the streets of Banja Luka and Mostar, love for cycling was united with advocacy for cleaner air and healthier lifestyles. The enthusiastic turnout reflected the growing recognition of cycling as a sustainable alternative to cars, allowing citizens to experience their cities in a new way, fostering a sense of ownership and encouraging them to consider walking, cycling, or using public transport as viable alternatives to driving.

European Mobility Week was marked across Bosnia and Herzegovina with recreational and educational activities organised by local administrations in cooperation with organisations and partners to highlight the need to raise awareness about improving public health and implementing sustainable and healthier options for all citizens. Sustainable urban mobility also fosters social inclusion, as cycling and walking are accessible to a wider range of people.

European Mobility Week, the European Union’s leading initiative to raise awareness of sustainable urban mobility takes place every year from 16 to 22 September with the increasing participation of cities, organisations and initiatives across Europe and the world. This European initiative promotes behavioural changes in favour of active mobility, public transport and other clean, intelligent transport solutions, EU in BiH writes.
