A meet-up bringing together local journalists from Brčko, Bijeljina, Zvornik, Cazin, Bihać, Ugljevik, Mostar, Tuzla, Zenica and Srebrenica was held at the EU Info Centre in Sarajevo on 26 and 27 October.

On this occasion, local journalists exchanged experiences with representatives of the EU Delegation/EU Special Representative Office in BiH and discussed what is important for the BiH public when it comes to covering topics related to the EU.

Head of Communications of the EU Delegation/EUSR, Jamila Milović-Halilović, stressed that local media represent a very important communicator in the area of European integration, in particular when it comes to the benefits that these processes have for the lives of people in local communities. The journalists stressed that concrete, everyday examples are the best way to explain to the public how the EU support can change the life of BiH citizens.

Interlocutors also discussed the current state of journalism in BiH, the relationship between politics and the media, the role of public services and local media in providing information on EU-related processes to BiH citizens, as well as the EU’s capital investments in the area of the protection of cultural heritage and media programmes within the EU funds.

At the very end of the two-day meet-up of journalists in Sarajevo, the group visited the newsroom of Al Jazeera Balkans.
