On February 9, 2026, Japan and Bosnia and Herzegovina marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations on February 9, 1996.
On the same day, Ambassador AIKI Toshihiro, Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Her Excellency Borjana Krišto, Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, exchanged letters sent to each other by Prime Minister TAKAICHI Sanae and Chairperson Kristo to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
During the meeting, Ambassador Aiki expressed satisfaction with the close development of bilateral relations in all areas over the past 30 years and emphasized the importance of further cooperation between the two countries, faced with various challenges in the international order. Chairperson Krišto highly rated the excellent friendship between the two countries over the past three decades and expressed the strong commitment of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a country with an unwavering goal of joining the EU, to continue honest dialogue and cooperation with Japan and further improve bilateral relations.
On February 13, Ambassador Aiki handed to Mr. Edin Dilberović, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a letter from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr. Toshimitsu Motegi, mutually marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, addressed to Mr. Elmedin Konaković, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
