The world-renowned artists will magnify the 70th anniversary of the Art Gallery of BiH with her exhibition. The exhibition will feature tapestries, collages and sculptures by Jagoda Buić, winner of numerous awards.
The exhibition is of retrospective character so the works that have been created over the past 40 years will be presented to the public from July 1 until August 20.
Muhamed Karamehmedović wrote about Jagoda Buić’s work: “It happened in Sao Paolo in 1975 that visitors passed breathlessly through the ‘black spaces’ of Jagoda Buić, through the Sorcerer’s expressive garden in the international biennale where shapes of wool and sackcloth collided, and the observers faced with disturbed and troubled environment. They were moving in amazement among the unseen opposites, between dream and reality, the real and the unreal, realizing that this extent is limitless. Moving between those opposites seems to have maintained the artistic movement of Jagoda Bujić – her equal existence in thought and in the ancient beginnings of the Euclidian vision of the world and the antic weavers to the new modernity of her tapestry that falls down in cascades, proving that the same wool thread exists in our world too, in this present world, in Jagoda’s day. Since then, in what used to be before and in what is now, we can say that a journey embodied the opus of Jagoda Buić and Jagoda herself, unlike any other Yugoslav creator.”
Jagoda Buić was born in Split. She studied at the Academy of Applied Arts and Design and the history of art at the University of Zagred. She graduated from the Akademie für angewandte Kunst in Vienna.
Official opening of the exhibition will be held on Friday, July 1, at 8 pm in the Art Gallery of BiH.
