Spain represents the perfect market for BiH, but it is necessary to expand economic cooperation and increase the volume of foreign trade, announced today at a seminar “BiH and Spain-business investment in the future”, which was held in the BiH Foreign Trade Chamber (VTK) in Sarajevo.

According to the President of VTKBiH Ismeta Kumalića, the exchange is not so great, but regarding the quality it is very important.

“Last year BiH had a surplus in foreign trade with Spain. This encouraged us to organized such a gathering where we could talk about the possibilities to improve cooperation”, said Kumalić to journalists.

Our chances will be realized particularly in the furniture industry, which generates 50 percent of total exports automotive industry.

The Ambassador of Spain to BiH Maria Aurora Mejia Errasquin said that political relations between the two countries are very good and that there is space to improve economic cooperation.

The basic idea is that Spanish companies have already had experience in bilateral relations, and that this presents for BiH firms the chance to use it in the best way in order to improve economic relations between the two countries.

“Even if we live in a time of global crisis, the figures show that exports of Spain in the last year have significantly increased the figure of 230 billion euros, and at the same time exports of BiH to Spain have increased by around 30 percent. This means that there is an important space to improve cooperation’’, said the Ambassador of Spain.

Spaniards tend to promote the sectors of engineering and consulting in the field of infrastructure projects, such as building roads and other facilities. Also, chances are in the tourism sector that is tied to an upgrade in infrastructure.

Investments in BiH are modest. However, there are Spanish firms that have already found their place in the BiH market, such as Zara, Eptisa, Bershka, Pull&Bear, etc…
