Experts from the NATO Science for Peace and Security met in Sarajevo

Experts from the NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Program met today in Sarajevo with representatives of the scientific community of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Officials and researchers from leading universities from all over the country gathered and exchanged opinions on further possibilities of cooperation, at the “SPS information day” held in the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The event, which was organized in cooperation with NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, highlighted the significant participation of scientists from Bosnia and Herzegovina in regional and international research efforts.

Over the past ten years, more than a dozen activities have been developed with Bosnia and Herzegovina within the framework of NATO’s Science for Peace and Security Program, in topics such as cyber defense, counter-terrorism and detection of explosive threats in cooperation with experts from NATO and partners countries.

Those activities helped in building capacity to deal with cyber and hybrid challenges in BiH and throughout Southeast Europe, and in the development of innovative tools and approaches to combating terrorism and violent extremism.

“Our cooperation is aligned with our partnership which is evolving and in line with the changing security circumstances, and is increasingly focusing on the application of technologies to face new and upcoming challenges,” said Claudio Palestini, Senior Advisor at NATO’s Science for peace and security.

“Today’s meeting is just one example of the activities we undertake in cooperation with NATO, precisely with the aim of further strengthening and improving our mutual cooperation. We must optimally use the opportunities offered to us within the NATO SPS program and be much more active together, research and look for new innovative solutions for a wide range of challenges,” said the BiH Minister of Security Selmo Cikotić.
