Farmers from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina will block border crossings on May 4 if the Council of Ministers does not accept their request for levies and customs duties on imports of fresh and chilled pork and beef from EU countries for a period of two years.

Yesterday, the Council of Ministers rejected the requests of farmers for the fourth time. Ministers from the Republika Srpska voted “for” and ministers from the Federation of BiH voted against.

Unlike ministers, farmers from both entities are united. If the authorities do not understand and do not understand this, protests will follow.

Stojan Marinkovic, the President of the Association of Agricultural Producers of Republika Srpska: “If our demands regarding the protection of domestic production are not adopted at the next session of the Council of Ministers, we will be forced to go out and block the border crossings.”

Nedzad Bico, the President of the Association of Farmers of Federation of BiH “It is a shame what they are doing from both these people and farmers, that they cannot agree on some positions for a year. This is a shame.

“The decision of colleagues from the Federation of BiH not to support protective measures was assessed as bad by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, Stasa Kosarac. He added that in this way, the import lobby is affected exclusively, but also that the formation of the Ministry of Agriculture at the state level is being pushed through the back door.

Kosarac added that he thinks they should stop dreaming that there will be a joint ministry of agriculture.

Representatives of a several associations of farmers from RS met today with the chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Milorad Dodik, since when they expect him to try to exert a kind of pressure on the Council of Ministers next week.

Dodik, the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH “We have not yet adopted the BiH budget. Maybe it will be an opportunity to show our attitude towards the budget in the same way as they show their attitude towards protective measures. “
