The expectations of fans of FC Željezničar before the rematch of the 3rd qualifying round of the European League against Standard from Liege were not fulfilled after all.
Despite the good performance of our representatives, our guests from Belgium finally triumphed with the minimum score and achieved placement in the playoffs.
Željezničar had a good start of the match. Pressing the defense of Standard brought several favorable situations to our representatives in front of the visitor’s goal. In the 17th minute Bajić tried to score, but Đelmić was late for the ball, and a good opportunity failed.
The first attempt of Standard was recorded in the 24th minute with the attempt of Badibanga. Željezničar was playing well until the end of the first half, had more ball possession, but visiting team had the best opportunity in the first part of the match.
Ivan Santini almost punished the bad reaction of defense of B&H representatives in the last minute but he missed in a situation one on one.
The second half of the match was opened with the long-range attempt of Ognjen Đelmić. In the 10th minute of the second half of the match Damir Sadiković missed the great opportunity by hitting the goalpost after a great cross from the right.
Ten minutes later Jelle Van Damme scored 0: 1 for Standard. Standard’s defender scored by precise shot with his left foot and gave the opportunity to fans from Belgium to celebrate.
By the end of the match, there was no major excitements. After the goal, players of Željezničar got a mild anxiety, and there was no new opportunities. All of this played in favor for the Standard, whose name will be found in the drum for the playoffs during the draw.
