The World Football Federation FIFA fined the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) around 115.000 baM due to failures at two qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup.

The largest part of the sanction refers to the match against San Marino, which was played on September 6th in Sarajevo. FIFA then imposed a fine of around 72.000 BAM due to the inappropriate behavior of the fans.

According to the disciplinary report, the audience threw various objects during the match, used pyrotechnics, and displayed messages that do not fit the spirit of sporting competition.

Three days later, at “Bilino Polje” in Zenica, BiH hosted the national team of Austria. FIFA accused the Association of racist and discriminatory outbursts, as well as failures in the organization and security of the match.

Because of that, the Football Association of BiH received an additional fine of around 42.000 BAM, along with the obligation to implement a prevention and education plan that should prevent similar incidents in the future.

FIFA emphasized in a statement on its official website that such incidents must not be tolerated in any way and that national associations have the responsibility to ensure a safe and inclusive environment at stadiums.

This is not the first fine for the Football Association of BiH. Last month, FIFA imposed a sanction of 38.000 BAM due to similar failures during the previous match against San Marino.
