festival (1)The third Sarajevo Chamber Music Festival began on 26 August and will last until 4 September. The concert program of the festival will start on 28 August, and at the press conference participants at this year’s festival were presented.

There will be a performance by the Manhattan String Quartet in combination with other renowned musicians from all over the world.

In the third edition, the festival seeks to retain the recognizable format ‘’modest in presentation, but rich in substance’’. The aim of this festival is to continue to grow, and not to exceed the limit of around 10 concerts. The idea is to exchange musical experiences and thoughts, and during the festival there will be many musical workshops and lectures.

The Dean of the music academy in Sarajevo, Ivan Čavlović said that he allowed the festival organizers to work within the academy, which helps them with material resources.

‘’Without such an organization this festival would not succeed. This is the best festival of artistic festival of classical music in the Balkans, and I can say that because I follow it. They are very specifically targeted, and this one is specific because it cultivates chamber music, of which there is not a lot’’, said Čavlović.

Chris Finckel from the Manhattan String Quartet and the artistic director of the festival said that their ensemble is happy that they are here again and that this is their fourth performance in Sarajevo. This is a huge success for them. ‘’We were not allowed to give up and I hope that we will have a long and joint future together’’, added Finckel.

The launching of the festival emerged with a meeting between B&H musician Dino Mulić with Finckel. ‘’The friendship between Chris and I turned into something that inspires this city. I hope that it will last and that it would continue to last for many years’’, said Mulić, the artistic adviser to the festival.

The focus of this year’s festival will include works by the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johannes Brahms.

‘’For chamber music, Mozart and Brahms are the two most important and wonderful composers. They represent two different aspects of genius. Mozart composed music in his head and wrote it perfectly. Brahms struggled and doubted himself whether the music was good enough. He erased, re-wrote and rejected until finally he wrote something that he felt he could share with the world’’, said Chris Finckel for klix.ba.

The concert will be held in the in the ‘Dom Oružanih snaga BiH’ beginning at 19:30. The concert of participants of the workshop will be held at the Music Academy at 19:30.
