Former Croatian President: Do we need a new war for BiH to Progress towards the EU?

Former Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović said on Friday in an interview with the Portuguese news agency Lusu that she was unhappy that the European Union did not open negotiations on membership with Bosnia and Herzegovina because the conflict could start there after it started between Russia and Ukraine.

“I am very critical of the EU. I am satisfied with the fact that Ukraine has received candidate status, but at the same time I strongly regret that negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina have not yet been opened,” said Grabar-Kitarović, reports Hina.

Asked about potential dangers for the destabilization of that region, Grabar-Kitarović mentioned the situation in Kosovo, where the NATO mission is located, and especially the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“I wonder if we need a new war for that country to progress towards the EU,” warned the conservative politician who was also the Croatian foreign minister.

She noted that Bosnia and Herzegovina must complete the implementation of reforms in the field of politics, justice, democracy and administration and that it should remain whole.

“The separation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is absolutely unacceptable for all of us,” she said.

The former Croatian president said that Russia and Serbia have open relations and cooperate, which is why Belgrade did not impose sanctions on Moscow due to the invasion of Ukraine.

“It is also no secret that Milorad Dodik (a member of the BiH Presidency) regularly travels to Russia for talks with Vladimir Putin about the situation and the path to follow,” noted Grabar-Kitarović, Klix.ba writes.
