Former US President Bill Clinton was admitted Monday afternoon to Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, where he is undergoing tests and observation due to an elevated temperature, his spokesman confirmed to CNN.

“The president is doing well,” said Angel Urena, Bill Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, adding that the former president hopes to return home by Christmas. “He remains upbeat and deeply appreciative of the excellent care he is receiving.”

Clinton, 78, was taken to the hospital from his home in Washington.

The former president previously had serious health problems. He underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery in 2004 and had two stents implanted in 2010 to open a blocked artery.

In 2021, he was hospitalized due to an infection that spread to the bloodstream.

Clinton has been active in political campaigns this fall, and after the election had a busy travel schedule to promote his new book, “Citizen: My Life After the White House.”
