hastorWithin the marking of 10 years of operating, the Foundation Hastor organized a conference: „Education as strategic philanthropic investment“, whose primary aim is to present positive practices in the region and to establish platforms for cooperation between media and organizations which deal with this kind of activity, so that the media would become more involved in the promotion of philanthropy as strategic investment in education.

The conference presented research of the Foundation Catalyst which sublimes philanthropic activities in Southeastern Europe, as well as research about socially responsible operating. According to this research, Bosnia and Herzegovina is leading when it comes to philanthropic investment in education when compared with other countries in the region.

„Corporate and individual donors recognized the importance of this subject, thus investing in education in Bosnia and Herzegovina is more substantial than in other countries in the region,“ said Jelena Bekčić from the Catalyst Foundation during presentation at the conference today, adding that as much as 66 percent of total investments in education are intended for long-term investments, which indicates the readiness of the donors to develop and strengthen this area.

Significance of engagement of public individuals in the promotion of philanthropy was also highlighted, as well as the significance of the engagement of media. Companies were invited to increase their engagement in the promotion of philanthropy through their activities. The accent was on the end user – young people who need good conditions for education and development.

Transparency was stressed as an especially significant factor in the relationship between the donor and the recipient of services, i.e. that it is known at any moment where the donation ends.

Foundation Hastor is a non-profit organization which provides scholarships for 1400 young people throughout BiH and helps them in becoming self-aware leaders in BiH.
