Frequent Earthquakes in BiH: What to do in Case of an Earthquake?

earthquakeA few days ago, strong earthquake disturbed the citizens of BiH. On Thursday afternoon another strong earthquake shook the soil of our country.

An earthquake cannot be prevented, but we can do everything we can to survive it.

Before the earthquake, it is necessary to determine a safe place in a larger room in a house or apartment, and to know where are the main switches for electricity, the main valves for gas and water and how to close them. You should always have prepared a battery, a radio and a first aid and some food.

It is very important not to panic during an earthquake because panic is fatal. If you find yourself in the lower areas, exit to free space with the first tremors, away from trees, street lights, electrical cables and buildings. If you are on the upper floors, stand next to the load-bearing walls, under door frames, in the inner corner of the room, under the table, and protect your eyes with your hands. Stand back away from the glass surface and interior walls, do not use matches or open fire.

If you are in a car, do not stop on bridges or underpass, beneath the electric cables and tunnels. Stop on the outdoor area and stay in the car.

When the first earthquakes stop, leave the room in the most appropriate way and bring the most important things with yourself. Do not leave the building by using an elevator, but use the stairs. Turn off electricity and close the gas and water at the main valve. Remember your humanity and help the victims, but do not move seriously injured. Use only bottled water.

Please follow the instructions received through public media. If you stay under the ruins, stay calm and call for help, and bump the installation pipes (water and central heating). Save your strength.
