From Residents to Donors of the SOS Children’s Village in Sarajevo

A former resident of SOS Children’s Village in Sarajevo, a humanitarian organization that cares for children and young people without parental care, today is the owner of a company that employs 25 young people. How did the environment help to close the circle of love and support?

“Here, behind me, is the house where I came when I was 18 months old, took my first steps, and learned my first words. And every day, when I come here, I remember those beautiful things, beautiful emotions that I experienced while staying here until I was about 14 years old,” Emir Piric said.

He was raised by Fikreta with six other children.

“She is so noble, pure, with a big, pure heart, she gives her maximum in everything. This is her job, but she never considered it a job at any moment in her life. And I think that’s what was the key to all of this and our success, of all the children who stayed with her,” adds Emir.

Curiosity and versatility opened many doors for him.

“In the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, a friend, a donor, contacted us with the desire to volunteer to support a young person and teach him the basics of programming. He was the first person I remembered, called and said – ‘Listen, Emir, would you like this, we have an opportunity, are you interested?’ He accepted, and that’s where Emir’s story starts,” Amra Dulic, coordinator for youth in SOS Children’s Village.

After two years, he founded an IT company with a friend.

His plan is to develop business and the IT sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Now he is a donor to the SOS Village and a role model for Fikreta’s new children, Slobodna Evropa reports.
