Although the defeat of Erdogan’s AK Party in local elections in Turkey has attracted attention throughout Europe, it seems that the Dutch right-wing politician and winner of elections in this country, Geert Wilders, has decided to take advantage of this situation the most.
Since the announcement of the election results, Wilders has made a series of comments regarding the elections in Turkey and, among other things, stated that Turkey has said goodbye to the AK Party and Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“Goodbye Erdogan and AK Party. Turkey wants secularism and freedom,” Wilders said.
After that, Wilders posted a video from Istanbul showing the removal of election posters of Erdogan’s candidate Murat Kurum while on the other side, there was a portrait of the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
“From Kurum to Ataturk. Revolution in Istanbul,” Wilders declared.
Namely, Wilders has previously publicly expressed hostility towards Erdogan and his party.
At the end of 2023, in a public address, he stated his desire for secularism and Kemalism to prevail in the elections in Turkey.
“I call for the election of a new leader of Turkey who will stop the influx of migrants, protect Turks, and support the working class,” Wilders said at the time, Klix.ba reports.
