German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said today that supporters of the Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas should be deported and that the authorities should pay attention to potential threats following the militants’ attacks on Israel.
“If we are in a situation to deport Hamas supporters, we have to do it. Our security authorities are currently paying the most attention to the Islamists,” said Faeser after a meeting with officials at the Federal Police Office.
There are growing concerns in Germany about the rise of anti-Semitism, especially after the attempted petrol bomb attack on a synagogue in Berlin and clashes between pro-Palestinian protesters and police in Berlin and other cities.
She appealed to the public to inform the authorities in case of any propaganda supporting Hamas.
