German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has declared a state of emergency due to migration, thereby nullifying the so-called Dublin rules of the European Union (EU) for asylum seekers.
The German Ministry of Internal Affairs has informed the ambassadors of neighboring countries about this move.
At this moment, it is not known when the state of emergency will come into effect, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs was not available for comment.
Two days ago, the media reported that the new Minister of Internal Affairs, Alexander Dobrindt, issued an order not to allow migrants without documents to enter the country and that he wants to deploy thousands of additional police officers at Germany’s borders.
