German police have seized hundreds of kilograms of the drug Captagon from a greengrocer in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, with a street value of more than 20 million euros, officials said.

An investigation has revealed that pallets of fruit delivered to a greengrocer in Landsberg may have contained the drug.

More than 20 suspicious pallets have been seized, prosecutors and police said in a joint statement.

Forensic examinations have so far been carried out on four pallets and they were found to contain approximately 300 kilograms of Captagon in the form of around 1.7 million tablets, the DPA news agency reported.

“This is probably one of the largest single seizures of this substance in Germany,” police and prosecutors said.

Investigations are underway against the suspects, who are not currently in Germany, the statement added.
