Germany FM: We must finally take the next Steps in the Western Balkans

Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Annalena Baerbock called for integration steps for the Western Balkans via Twitter.

”Russia’s war is a historic turning point for our continent. How we decide now will shape the situation in Europe in a long term– even if the accession process remains long and tedious,”Baerbock wrote.

She called for determination in terms of the Western Balkans.

”We must finally take the next steps in the Western Balkans – otherwise Russia will take them. But it will not be enough to put more chairs in the circle in Brussels. It is time to build the European Union (EU) further, including moving away from unanimity in foreign policy,” Baerbock stated.

Earlier, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said that it was unthinkable “to give Ukraine candidate status and keep Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) out of that story.”

To recall, the European Commission gave a recommendation for the candidate status of Ukraine and Moldova yesterday, while for Georgia it was stated that it has a solid basis for it.
