The first competition day of the European Junior Judo Cup, which started today in Sarajevo and brought together some of the most promising young judokas from all over Europe, ended with two medals for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The local audience and fans of judo sports had a reason to celebrate thanks to Korina Džidić, who was better than the Russian Madina Suleimanova in the final of the category up to 78 kilograms. The representative of our country confirmed in the right way that she is in top form after winning two gold medals at the Casablanca African Open at the beginning of the year.

“After two golds at the African Open, this is the ideal start of the year for me. Thanks to everyone who believed in me. For me, this is a strong incentive to continue working even better and more decisively,” said Džidić after awarding the medals.

Džidić was not the only BiH representative who stood on the podium in the category up to 78 kilograms, as Elisabeth Johanna Klinger also won the bronze medal with her victory against Briton Nicole Wood.

Ramiz Pašić was also within reach of a medal, but he was defeated by Poland’s Jakub Kobylinski in the fight for the bronze medal. Despite the defeat in the fight for honors in the competition up to 73 kilograms, Pašić showed quality in duels with extremely respectable rivals and confirmed that he is certainly one of the young judokas with great prospects, announced the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The competition, which brought together 304 judokas (202 men and 102 women), was opened by the Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina Aiki Toshihiro, and Branislav Crnogorac, Director for Development of the European Judo Union (EJU), gave a welcome speech.

The European Junior Judo Cup Sarajevo 2026 continues tomorrow, and admission is free for all visitors.
