On the night from Wednesday to Thursday, the football team of Bosnia and Herzegovina will play one of the most important matches in its history – the round of 16 match of the World Cup against the United States of America. The game BIH – USA will be played in San Francisco at 2:00 a.m. our time (5:00 p.m. local time).
In the last round of the group stage, coach Sergej Barbarez’s team defeated Qatar 3:1 and with four points won in group B won a historic place in the knockout stage as one of the eight best third-placed national teams.
The Dragons’ opponent in the round of 16 is the United States of America, one of the hosts of the World Cup and a selection that came to the final tournament with great ambitions. The Americans won the knockout stage by winning first place in group D with 6 points.
The Dragons will try to achieve another feat against the favored host and write the history of BiH football by placing in the round of 16 of the World Cup.
“We will try to keep what brought us here, what has been guiding us for a year and a half, our mentality, our winning mentality, our approach, a willing moment. This is the seventh city in America we are in, I hope the eighth will come and that’s how we will enter the game,” said coach Sergej Barbarez at the press conference before the game against the United States of America.
“Of course they are the favorites, both by their place in the table, by the fact that they are the hosts and by the names they have. But what is important is what will happen on the field. We have watched them, analyzed them, we have a plan, we want to face each other, we are glad to have such a national team against us. We will have a lot of will and we want to continue our journey here,” stressed Barbarez.
Brazilian Raphael Claus will referee the match at the “San Francisco Bay Area” stadium. He will be assisted by compatriots Danilo Manis and Rodrigo Figueiredo. The fourth referee is Argentinean Dario Herrera.
The winner of the BiH – USA duel will play against Belgium or Senegal in the round of 16.
