Gourmands from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and the region enjoyed tasting high quality wines and cheese at 13th Sarajevo Wine Weekend at the Army Hall here on Thursday evening.

Some 60 wineries from BiH and the region were hosted here presenting their best wines and quality, traditional cheese and the most famous regional winemakers shared their knowledge of wine making at eight educational workshops. The most visited stand was the Montenegrin producer “Plantaze” which has a tradition of the 50 years, devoting the greatest attention to Montenegrin autochthonous grape varieties.“Visitors can enjoy the best wines and delicacies from the rich gastronomic

“Visitors can enjoy the best wines and delicacies from the rich gastronomic offer, because this is a food holiday as well. It is needed for visitors just to come here, take a glass and enjoy the next two days,” Amir Besirevic, the organizer, said at the opening ceremony.

The focus of the event was winegrowing, quality wines and wine tasting, but the visitors had the opportunity to taste different traditional cheese as well.  “Our production is domestic, located in the natural environment of Kupres, some 140 kilometres west from the capital Sarajevo where we produce different types of cheese. This year, we have won seven gold medals on different fairs and festivals in the region,” Vedad Zilic, a presenter from the “Kupres Milch” company told Sarajevo Times.

The festival brought together wine makers from Austria, BiH, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Serbia and the United States. Sarajevo Wine Weekend is the biggest BiH festival of wines and one of the most significant one in the region. The event will take place until Oct.27.
