On Thursday, 15 August 2024, the Director of the Public Highways Company Denis Lasić and the Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Office in BiH Manuela Naessl signed a Grant Agreement in Sarajevo related to a grant from the European Union in the amount of 3.5 million euros for the supervision of works on the Putnikovo Brdo – Medakovo section. The Putnikovo Brdo – Medakovo section is 8.5 kilometers long and passes through the three municipalities of Usora, Doboj Jug and Tešanj.

This section includes the construction of six bridges, one small tunnel, five underpasses, one overpass, seven hydrotechnical facilities, two interchanges, front and side toll booths, and a traffic management and control center on the highway.

Statement by Denis Lasić: “Corridor Vc is a project that is moving forward every day.” Three and a half million euros in grants is a substantial amount for the section Putnikovo Brdo – Medakovo, the construction of which is underway. Thank you to the European Union for their continued financial support for numerous projects on Corridor Vc that benefit all citizens. We are very satisfied with the long-term excellent cooperation. Our plan is to have the entire stretch from Sarajevo, i.e. from Bradina to the Sava river, in operation in the second half of 2026″.

The signing ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Adebayo Babajide. The European Union has already allocated 12 million euros in grants for the construction of the Putnikovo brdo – Medakovo section, and today an additional grant agreement for 3.5 million euros is being signed for the supervision of works on this section.

“The European Union is committed to enhancing Bosnia and Herzegovina’s connectivity and regional integration through the construction of the Corridor Vc motorway, the country’s largest infrastructure project. This vital project will boost economic growth, improve transportation, and positively impact the daily lives of citizens. To support this, the EU has allocated €870 million in grants to date, covering all stages of the project, including construction, preparation and supervision. Today, another grant is being signed for the Putnikovo Brdo – Medakovo section, which is another step forward towards completing this vital project,” Babajide said.

This project also involves the regulation of the Usora and Tešanjka riverbeds to prevent the flooding of settlements along the rivers, the relocation of approximately 3.5 kilometers of the existing main road M-4, and reconstruction of local roads.

The value of the contracted works is EUR 167,062,555.93 including VAT, with 24 months completion period.

On the northern section of the Vc Corridor, 50 km of the highway is under construction, and works on the Ozimice – Poprikuše section are yet to begin, which means that the entire northern part of the corridor will be in some construction phase.

The strategic plan of FBiH Public Highway Company is to complete all sections on the northern part of Corridor Vc in the second half of 2026. Given its position and the fact that it passes through a number of local communities with a high concentration of businesses and a strong potential for further development, it will be the new lifeline for this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, EU in BiH writes.
